Welcome back to “A Slice of Savory Sunday.”

From what I heard from my friend, the July 20th meal went pretty well. But I wasn’t in town for that one, so let’s focus on the July 27th meal I was in town for!

Like the last meal I was a part of, the main course for this meal was ordered from a nearby restaurant: good ol’ Ian’s Pizza! On Friday the 25th, I went to Ian’s and ordered six pies for Sunday: two plain cheese, one pepperoni and sausage, one all-veggie, one buffalo chicken, and one mac and cheese. While maybe I should have bought a second pepperoni and sausage or even a third plain cheese, Ian’s Pizza has crazy pizza variety and I wanted to showcase that with the ones I chose!

Anyways, on Sunday the 27th, I met my volunteering buddy at Ian’s, we picked up the pizzas, and carried them to the capitol together. Once we got there, we opened up the basement, put down our pizzas, and met another Savory Captain upstairs to bring down the rest of the meal, which consisted of a salad, some sandwich cookies, and bottled water. Once we were all set up, me and my buddy got to work passing out pizza slices and serving up salad!

In total, we ended up serving about 32 people, just ever so slightly above the norm for a typical meal. Since there weren’t too many people that day, plenty of folks got to have second slices. Once we were out of pizza, we offered up the rest of the food, cleaned up the table we served at, packed up our stuff, and went on our merry way!

Next time on “A Slice of Savory Sunday”, I will be providing dessert for the meal, but I won’t be buying something pre-packaged from a store! That’s right, I’m making the dessert myself! Tune in next time to see how that goes!
