Welcome back to yet another “Slice of Savory Sunday”.

The final Savory Sunday of June 2025 featured a summer classic as its main course: hot dogs! These all-beef sausages were accompanied by two salads, one green and one potato, as well as some sandwich cookies and two bags of clementines provided by yours truly. For drinks, patrons could refresh themselves with cups of lemonade because it was another SAVAGELY steamy day outside!

After arriving at the capitol with the clementines and serving supplies, I asked the capitol police to open up the basement so that we could serve. Once that was done, I headed back upstairs to wait for the rest of “we” to arrive. To my surprise, the only other person who arrived was the other Savory Sunday Captain, who had brought the rest of the meal with her. Most of the volunteers who usually joined me had gone home for the summer, so it was just me and the other captain serving that day.

Fortunately, this wasn’t a problem! After carting down the rest of the food and setting up at our usual table, we got to work and began to serve! While the other captain dealt out hotdogs and salads, I was in charge of handing out clementines, cookies, and pouring lemonade into cups. I counted 39 different people who got served that day, and with roughly 10 people coming back for seconds, we ended up handing out just under 50 meals! In fact, we ended up serving all the food and drink we had brought! This doesn’t always happen, but when it does, it feels great because it means people really liked the meal!

Overall, this Savory Sunday was a real humdinger, and I can’t wait for next week’s… “Slice of Savory Sunday”!
