Welcome back to another entry in “A Slice of Savory Sunday”.

While this blog has been focusing on the meals me and my team have been preparing for Savory Sunday, we don’t always make the weekly meals. There are other Savory Sunday captains, and this week, one of them was in charge of preparing the big meal. She made meatball subs, buttered noodles, and a steamed vegetable medley, while also bringing some lemonade, cookies, and oranges. Earlier in the week, however, she asked me if I could provide some extra sides, as well as the serving supplies. I agreed, and I spent the weekend shopping for salad mix, ranch dressing, and a few spare bags of oranges.

On Sunday, we headed out to the state capitol, announced that Savory Sunday was starting soon, and got the police to open up the basement. After the other captain arrived, we carted down the food, set up shop, and got to serving! I was in charge of scooping up warm veggies, noodles, and salad while the other volunteers and captain dealt with the meatballs, desserts, and drinks. Overall, serving went well, with 40 or so meals going out to 30 or so people. On a final note, one of the patrons said he looks forward to these meals every week, which just fills my heart with joy!
